Formerly a trading department at hotel-use toothbrush producer Sanyo Burashi Inc., Sanyo Bussan was spun off in 1992 as an independent corporation. We handled all types of amenity products in general—a rarity at the time—and we even manufactured these products on our own from the very start.

At Sanyo Bussan, our company philosophy is "providing products tailored to the changes of the times," and based on this approach we have focused since day one on developing a wide range of novel products that the industry had never seen before. Many of these have become commonplace in the hotel industry today, such as hairbrushes as alternatives to the flat combs which were once the only option available. Furthermore, we have created unified packaging designs for amenity good sets to replace the former approach of disparate packaging for individual amenity item types.

In response to the problem of marine plastic waste seen in recent years, we plan to continue reducing plastic usage, utilize recyclable containers, and even eliminate plastic containers altogether and replace them with containers made entirely from plant-derived ingredients, all of which will further strengthen sales performance.

Actively Pursuing Reductions
in Plastic Usage

Hotel amenity products have long used plastic as a primary material. To change this, we have served as an industry pioneer by striving to eliminate plastic usage in our products. Based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which were designed to change our world, we have been developing entirely new, environmentally friendly hotel amenity products never before seen in the industry.

The Industry's First Bioplastic Products Made Using Old and Broken Rice

Sanyo Bussan has succeeded in developing a series of biomass-resource products that use old rice and broken rice, which are not considered suitable for commercial food product use, to reduce plastic usage amounts by approximately 50 percent. These are the hotel industry's first biomass-based amenity products, and because the CO2 volumes emitted during their post-use disposal via incineration are not large enough to affect overall atmospheric CO2 levels, the products have received biomass certification. In addition to these, we have developed and produced craft-use ballpoint pens made using paper and straw, eco-friendly shower caps made partially from corn constituents, and a wide range of other products made from recycled materials as well as products certified with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) label.
